How to Mark an Arm/Leg

Marking Your Swimmer's Arm or Leg

BEFORE warm up, ensure your swimmer has sunscreen. let that dry, then write your swimmer’s name on their back. Write their events on their forearm or leg with a sharpie.

Heat sheets list every event in the meet in order. It includes the number of the event as well as the distance and type of event (for example 50 yard freestyle). The number of heats and the names of the swimmers will be listed next. You take that information and write it as follows:

E = Event          FR= Freestyle

H = Heat           BK= Backstroke

L = Lane            Fly= Butterfly

S = Stroke         BR= Breastroke

                          IM= Individual Relay
